Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of enrolling my child in Central Point Elementary International School?

Central Point is a great place to start your child’s education. Our small campus and class sizes offer many benefits such as a strong sense of belonging and identification and our school environment often feels like a large family instead of a school. Our students are provided with a high quality education that will allow them to be fully prepared for their next educational steps.

Where will my child go to complete his education?

Each child and family will need to consider what educational steps to take upon graduating from Central Point Elementary International School. Central Point is prepared to assist families with this decision and there are several options to consider such as Czech gymnasium for Czech Nationals, continuing in another international school, or moving/returning to the UK or the USA.

In all cases, children will be prepared for whatever future steps they will take. By the middle of the 3rd grade (year 4) parents will be asked to schedule an appointment with the school principal to discuss the future education of their child. Once the decision is made Central Point will ensure all the steps leading up to graduation are taken with their next educational step in mind.

My Child is Czech and must take the state regulated exams. Will Central Point prepare her for these exams and when will the tests be taken?

Central Point will prepare all Czech Nationals for the state required exams. These exams will be taken twice per year at our parent school Na Smetance in Prague 2 where your child will be a registered student.

Is Central Point an accredited school?

Central Point has earned accreditation for the Minister of Education in the Czech Republic. We are currently following the steps required to become a member of the International Baccalaureate program. We are continually growing and developing to meet the highest standards possible.

My child loves to be busy with activities. Do you offer any after school activities or clubs?

We offer many after school clubs to enhance and develop additional skills. Our clubs change according to the interest of the children. Some of our current clubs are art, drama, yoga, Czech language for foreigners, ballet and piano. We are always searching for new clubs to meet the interests of the children and we always welcome suggestions.

My Child is a vegetarian. Do you offer a vegetarian option for lunches?

Our food is catered from Fusion Catering and they are always willing to meet the dietary needs of a child. A vegetarian option is offered on a daily basis. All soups and snacks are vegetarian and therefore are provided as a part of the vegetarian meal.

My Child is a very picky eater and will only eat cheese sandwiches. Can I pack my child’s lunch?

It is possible to pack a lunch for your child. Packed lunches must be provided in containers that will keep the food warm or cold until lunchtime. Hygiene regulations do not allow us to warm food in the microwave or to keep food in our refrigerator. Packed lunches should contain healthy food and snacks. No chocolate, sweets or soft drinks should be a part of a packed lunch. All containers should have clearly marked tops and bottoms so they can be returned to the rightful owner if left behind.

I would like my child to learn another language. Are additional languages a part of your curriculum? If yes, from what age do language classes begin?

After school clubs currently offer Spanish and Czech language classes 1x per week.

Additionally, from 1st grade (year 2) Spanish or French is offered for children who are not a part of the Czech program and from the 3rd grade (year 4) for Czech Nationals

When I visited your school I did not see any typical workbooks. What learning materials are provided for the purpose of teaching?

Workbooks haven’t become obsolete yet, but they have become limiting. When children are exposed to a diverse international curriculum it is difficult to find a workbook that provides the material according to our curriculum. For this reason, we have created special workbooks to support our curriculum. By creating our own workbooks we are able to ensure we have access to the materials we want to teach and it gives us the opportunity to accommodate our lessons to meet the needs of the students.

During our school visit we noticed iPads being used by the children. How do you utilize these devices in the classroom.

In this modern technological age it is important to find ways to bring technology into the classroom. Apple's iPads are great supplemental educational tools. The educational applications which are available for ipads enhance our curriculum and because they are very user friendly students are able to work independently to practice and improve skills.
